Altura has been selected to update Evanston’s 2012 Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan in order to keep municipal and public spaces compliant with the ADA. The update will reflect the current state of city buildings, address existing
architectural and program barriers, and detail future steps for improvement.
An Advisory Group comprised of community members has been established to collaborate with the Altura team on this effort. Altura will be collecting their input throughout the planning process. From November to December 2021, two community open houses (in-person and virtual) and a community survey were made available for the public to provide input on existing City facilities and programs.
The Virtual Open House was on Thursday, August 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. The project team gave an overview of the plan’s priorities and recommendations. Closed captioning was provided during the meeting.
The goal is to have the ADA Transition Plan update ready for implementation by September 2022.
